DR Congo: 220 killed as Oil tanker exploded and set to fire

This sad incident took place at Sange Village in Democratic Republic of Congo. Oil tanker overturned, exploded and set fire to different parts of village. 220 people are feared dead as a result of this unpleasant incident. The effected village, Sange is located near eastern border of country.

Explosion took place after the fuel oil spread through the village and that is the reason of extremely high death toll. No official count of injured people has still been showed, which of course is a point of worry. Such incidents are common in this region and last time in October 2009, 70 people were burnt to death as oil tanker exploded. Similar unpleasant incidents took place in November 2008, August 2008, January 2008 and March 2007….

A rough Red Cross estimate tells that there are almost 100 people injured and the death toll is likely to rise.

The ICRC deputy head of delegation in area said “”It is a small village. When the truck turned over a lot of people gathered round. It then caught fire and spread through the village.”

Many concrete built and straw built homes engulfed in the fire which broke out at night. According to Governor of South Kivu, some of the dead includes people who were trying to steal the fuel but many of the dead includes people who were indoors and watching FIFA WC match…!

Sizewell B nuclear power plant under FIRE!

Fire broke out in Sizewell B nuclear power plant which is located at Suffolk coast, this Saturday. Power plant was made safe by firefighters after six and a half hours of struggle and efforts.

Fire broke out in Charcoal absorber which is used to filter out gases. Team of eight fire fighters attended the fire and managed to tackle it at 0330 BST. Fire broke out few minutes before 2100 BST…..

No body at the power plant was hurt or injured by fire. Sizewell B’s station director, Jim Crawford told “Our community liaison officer has proactively been in touch with our contacts in the community to reassure them that the incident was safely managed in line with our well rehearsed emergency plans.”

Investigations are being carried out in order to analyze the cause of fire in detail.

Otunbayeva became first female President of ‘Troubled state of Kyrgyzstan’

Career diplomat interim leader, Rosa Otunbayeva sworn in as first female president of Kyrgyzstan today, 3 July 2010. She has become the first female leader of an ex-soviet central Asian nation.

Remember, few days back a new constitution has been developed in the country which has established a parliamentary democracy.

She was foreign minister of the state before holding the president office. She took oath of office in Capital at Soviet-era concert hall.

Mrs. Rosa goes as follows in her first addressing as a President:

As president, I will spare no effort to create a new political culture for the country based on a strict adherence to the rule of law; I must be principled and consistently make demands on all branches of government to ensure it. The new policy can not be built on fantasies and illusions. It must become real and effective

Kyrgyzstan can no doubt be termed as conflict-torn country as it has been wracked by bloody cultural riots and political instability since last year. The new President has sworn in at very delicate moment. Red Cross also described the country’s situation as “immense crisis”……..

Mrs. Rosa will serve as President until after elections of 2011. She will also be the PM of country until the elections are able to form new PM and his Parliament.

Russia and other countries, which maintain military bases in the strategically-located country, will be closely watching the steps and planning’s of the new Kyrgyz. President.

Gen. Petraeus calls for unity to tackle Afghan war

New US commander in Afghanistan Gen. Petraeus arrived in Afghanistan. First thing he did after taking charge was to call civilian officials and military to get united in order to perfectly tackle the Afghan war.

Petraeus gave this ‘Unity lesson’ in front of 1700 guests at US embassy in Kabul. Gen Petraeus has been appointed as Afghan war head Commander after Gen McCrystal and his team mocked US top officials, including Obama.

This was the first addressing of Gen Petraeus after taking hold of Afghan war. Afghan, American and many other international guests attended that on lawn of Embassy.

Quoting the exact words, Gen Petraeus said, “This is an effort in which we must achieve unity of effort and common purpose. Civilian and military, Afghan and international, we are part of one team with one mission.” He made clear that Army-Civilian cooperation is a must-thing in this scenario.

Gen. Petraeus has also to meet Hamid Karzai today. He will be facing number of hard challenges here in Afghanistan; hardest of the challenges is reduction in NATO personnel’s deaths, which was the highest ever of nine years in June 2010—- 102…

Turkey-Israel meets first time after flotilla attack

This is the first time high level meeting has held between Turkey and Israel, after the Israel army brutal attack on aid ship bound for Gaza. Talks held between Israeli Trade Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer and Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday in Brussels.

Remember, Turkey had cut off all the talks with Israel after Flotilla attack in which 9 Turks were killed, but now resumed again. Officials from Ankara clearly demanded apology and compensation for the victim’s families from Israel.

Israel didn’t apologize and simply said that Flotilla attack was a self-defense attack from the commandos as a group from aid-ship tried to attack the commandos first.

This meeting was kept secret and was broken on Wednesday evening by Israeli channel 2 TV.

According to a senior Israeli source, White House exerted pressure on both countries for a meeting and also communicated the plan and details of meetings with both parties. Turkish officials said that meeting was not meant for any big purpose even the demand of apology and compensation was not met by Israel. He also mentioned that Israel still wants the same type of relations with Turkey as they were before the raid.

Analysts are saying that after few months of angry exchanges between two countries, relations will get normal back again after this meeting! Let us see what future brings for both countries …..

Egypt: Two police officers charged over death of an activist, Khalid Said

Two plain-clothed police men charged in Cairo, Egypt in connection with death of Khaled Said, who was a business man. According to witnesses, Police men dragged Khalid out of internet café in Alexandria and beaten him to death on the road.

Concerned officials are saying that Khaled has not been beaten to death but he himself swallowed Marijuana when he saw Police approaching towards him.

Both the police men are in jail for four days pending the mentioned investigation.

Two are not facing murder charges but they are only accused of too much use of force. They can be sentenced to jail for one year because of this indict.

The name of two police men are Warrant Officer Mahmoud Salah and Sgt Awad Ismail Suleiman. International concerned authorities US, EU, and human rights group have demanded clear investigations and details of the entire story.

The autopsies carried out, show that Khaled Said died of suffocation after swallowing the drug. There have been number of protests going on in Cairo and Alexandria against the Police brutality and excessive use of force.

China: Global English TV channel launched by Xinhua

China’s state biggest national news agency has started a 24 hour English news channel, main purpose of which is to communicate the communist Government efforts and trends across the world. In past few years, China looked very un-happy with the international media operating in their country. So that can also be the reason of launch of their own English news channel. China always considered the International media biased and focused on negative news.

The name of channel is CNC, China Xinhua News Network Corporation. According to officials, it will present “an international vision with a china perspective” and counter the foreign media china related negative reports.

Xinhua’s president Li Congjun told, “It will broadcast news reports in a timely way and objectively, and be a new source of information for global audiences,”

Wu Jincai, controller of CNC World, told that they are hoping to extend the channel service up to 50 million viewers within its first year.

CNC world will available on satellite, cable, cell phone and internet but this channel will be broadcast in US via cable networks from Oct. 1.

Ghana illegal gold mine collapsed: Owner arrested

Owner of Gold mine in Ghana, which was collapsed three days a go due to heavy rains, arrested today. That collapse caused large numbers of miners to burry inside the collapsed mine. The mine was located in Dunkwa-on-Offin, central Ghana.

Rescue works are going on and almost 15 people have been rescued. It is worth mentioning here that Kenya is one of the largest gold exporters of Africa.

That mine was illegal according to Municipal chief Peter Owusu-Eshia. He told that the owner has allegedly hired almost 136 people to work in mine. No registration of hired workers was there and that is main reason of having no exact idea about number of people working in mine at the time of collapse. Owner of the mine arrested today!

Local police commander Supt SK Buabeng told “At this stage I don’t think we can get any survivors, those who are already trapped, I believe they may be dead now.” He still said that his team is trying best to get bodies recovered.

Many multinational companies are present in Ghana legally in search of Gold but villagers often dig their own pits or small mines in hope of gold and other precious metal.

Oil spill clean-up delayed because of Bad weather and Hurricane!!

A part of BP’s oil clean-up efforts in Gulf of Mexico has been paused because of Bad weather, high winds and waves from strengthening storm. Main oil clean-up activities like skimming, controlled burning and dispersant flights have been suspended because of such situation.

The hurricane building up in Atlantic Ocean is named as “Alex” and it is the first one in this Ocean. It is category 1 hurricane which is not considered as dangerous one but still strong enough to halt any clean-up activities going on.

According to US Coast Guard, it is Louisiana coast where oil-clean up activities has been halted. Other affected areas include Mississippi, Florida and Alabama.

Oil spill catastrophe is in its 72nd day and no one knows when oil –clean up ends. According to many reports, there are almost 35K to 60K barrels gushing out daily from blown-up well. The clean-up company can only clear 28K barrels a day which is of course a point of worry.

Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 to 30th November and according to meteorologist, this year will be very active and can cause severe problems to the clean-up workers.

Is this the end of Media independence in Pakistan?

Pakistan Government has presented a bill in parliament known as ‘Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory act’, which if passed, would bring harsher regulations for online organizations and broad casters.

This bill imposes many regulations on almost all the electronic media including TV and radio and some online news services. This bill does not affect any of the printed media, as clear from its name.

Talking about the bill, Government officials said that by introducing this bill they are just trying to dilute the harsher Musharraf Government methods.

It should be clear that the committee has first to vet the bill, before parliament votes on it.

What restrictions this bill applies on electronic media network? Well, it will ban TV channels from showing any images or programming of suicide attacks or the bodies of victims or bombers of terror attacks. Any material related to such attacks will be banned, if this bill passes.

Any statements from militants or extremists will not be allowed to broadcast on TV or radio. Any programming which spreads hatred or extremism will also be prohibited to show on TV and radio.

Moreover, any program which opposes the ideology and independence of Pakistan will not be allowed to go on-air. Further more any stuff contradicting with security and sanctity of Pakistan will be banned. Any TV or radio channel which will violate the law will be fined and banned permanently from the country.

Kenya PM underwent brain surgery

Raila Odinga, the Prime Minister of Kenya underwent minor brain surgery today in Nairobi hospital. That minor procedure was just to relieve pressure outside his brain. According to his neurosurgeon Oluoch Olunya, he is recovering well and has been hospitalized for exhaustion.

Mr. Odinga is 65 and his spokesman told that he was fit to work after surgery but advised by doctors to take rest. He is one of the most energetic Kenyan politicians of this time and he is PM of Kenya since 2008.

Mr. Odinga was very much worried about the constant head-aches problem in last few days that is why he preferred medical attention.

Quoting the exact words of his neurosurgeon, “Following examinations and initial investigations, he was found to have a build up of pressure outside his brain leading to a headache”

Mr. Olunya told that that Mr. PM was feeling build up of pressure which was relieved by extracting the some fluid through small opening in a skull.

He also said that this problem may have occurred because of him hitting his head while in a car three weeks earlier. Deputy PM Musalia Mudavadi and many other politicians wished his speedy recovery.

Australia’s ‘Dr Death’ sentenced to jail

Jayant Patel, 60, who is an Indian born US citizen found guilty of killing three patients of Australia under his care. He has been dubbed as ‘Doctor Death’ by Australian media and now the world is calling him so.

He is a US citizen and worked in a hospital of Australian state of Queensland from 2003 to 2005. He is also found guilty of grievous bodily harm of another patient. Patel was banned from conducting surgery in American states so he moved to Australia.

Nurses of the hospital told that many patients under his care were not happy from quality of his work. One of three patients died because of un-necessary removal of bowel.

He remained under trial for more than 14 weeks. Brisbane Supreme court reached its decision after about 50 hours of deliberation. The names of three people who died because of Patel were Gerry Kemps, James Phillips, and Mervyn Morris.

Defense team openly claimed that he didn’t do any thing wrong and what he acted was in total interest of the patients.

His wife couldn’t control her emotions and burst into tears as his husband was moved to cells from the court.

Afghan War: 4 Norwegian soldiers dead

According to officials, 4 soldiers of Norway have been killed in a bomb attack on their mobile military vehicle, this Sunday. They were on a mission in Faryab province when this attack took place.

This is the deadliest single attack on any Scandinavian country’s troops supporting America in conflict. The military spokeswoman of Norway Heidi Langvik refused to give any detail until the families of the dead had been informed.  She only told “Four soldiers were killed this afternoon”

June was really a hard month for forces involved in Afghan war. 98 soldiers have been killed so far only in this month which is indeed a point of worry for American army.

After these attacks the count of Norwegian soldier’s death reaches to 9 in Afghanistan. Norwegian defense minister Grete Faremo commented as follows after this sad incident “Norway has been hit hard. The loss deeply affects us all. It’s hard and it reminds us of the risk we’re taking”

Norway has total of 500 soldiers based in Afghanistan, in Kabul and north areas of country.

Police treated Kashmir protestors with guns and bullets

Indian Administered Kashmir never has been a peaceful place. Only in this month six innocent civilians were shot dead by the Kashmir police. Many people protested against this harsh behavior of Police forces which has almost become their daily routine.

Protestors threw stones over the police to show their anger and un-happiness. Police in turn reacted so wildly that they opened fired on protestors. Many people have been wounded but no death is reported.

Hundreds of thousands of troops are deployed in Kashmir to fight 20 years old Kashmir mutiny against Indian rule. Protests were taken out in northern town of Sopore which is 50 Km from Srinagar.

Thousands of people gathered on the funeral procession of Ahmed who was just 22 years old and was killed in firing by the Central Reserve Police Force on Sunday. Police opened fire on the protestors when they marched towards police station, with stones in hands.

State authorities also seems unhappy with the CRPF, they have criticized federal forces for too much use of force against the protestors.

Mexican singer “El Shaka” shot dead

Only few hours had past after El Shaka denial of his murder news when he was actually shot dead on his mother land. He was 40 and according to different websites he had increased security after murder of many Mexican musicians.

He mostly did narcocorridos that is celebrating the lives of different drug business leaders through songs. Such singers are mostly the targets of opponent drug gangs and that may be exactly what happened in this case.

He was shot dead by gunmen when he was going to a concert in Sinaloa state.

According to Mexican media, Mr. El Shaka car was followed by a truck on Saturday night. Gunmen hit his car with bullets from same truck because of which he got injured. He could not keep control on his red Cadillac and crashed it. Gunmen then killed him with shots to the chest and head. These all details were given by his passenger to El debate newspaper and no official details of death have still been told.

Police only told that they have found the used bullet shells next to driver’s door. There were rumors about his death few hours before he had been actually killed. He himself denied this news at an entertainment website saying “it’s happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I’ve been killed, or suffered an accident.”

This is the seventh Grupero musician killing case since last three years. Although El Shaka increased his security because of threats but still the rivals succeeded in their filthy ambitions. R.I.P El Shaka
