The climate changes in the recent years have stunned people from all walks of life. It’s evident that the weather changes are not just ‘coincidental’. The drastic changes in weather climates affected the lives of several people, leaving them devastated and homeless.
Now, COP15, an environmental movement in Copenhagen is mobilizing to making a change for good. The UN Climate Change Conference held in Denmark served a great purpose in this day and era. The ongoing initiation to find solutions to global warming is still ongoing until December 18, 2009. Government officials from all walks of life are to attend this memorial negotiation.
COP15 is initiated by Danish Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen that aimed a strong ambition on the said movement on 14 day period. This conference acknowledges and urges present leaders to take responsibilities in finding solutions to this environmental crisis.
Even the youth is encouraged to partake this movement in the global change. World Scouting is set to educate our youth the relevance of what their actions can do to save our planet. The theme “Climate Change: Scouts are part of the solution” slogan promotes social awareness in the increasing need to alter our perspective in caring for our environment.
A wide coverage set by media men is covering the said event. Bloggers, writers and about 5000 reporters from 180 countries will cover the conference as world leaders will discuss solutions to this crisis. The BBC news team sent out 35 people from their field and The Guardian sets out their best reporters to cover the story.
China, India and Brazil also sent 300 reporters to cover this epic conference. This is the biggest media coverage yet excluding the Olympic Games and US presidential elections that was given last year.
COP 15 is focused on aiming to bind an agreement in decreasing the global climate by a maximum of 2 degrees. Negotiations set forth in this conference should bind participating countries to the Copenhagen agreement covering key issues on the following:
- Obligations set forth on developed countries to cut down on emissions.
- Developing countries to hold responsibility to take actions against global warming
- · Immense budget on adaptation, financial assistance, technology and upfront finance on the start of the project.
Primary strategic aims of COP 15 are:
- · A decrease of 20% emissions by 2020 including traffic growth.
- · A decrease of 50% emissions produced per unit by year 2020.
The goal of the Danish government is to bind the Parties to the climate agreements that are to be applied after 2012.
The Danish government is hopeful to get as many countries to participate in this global activity to solve this crisis. These agreements are set forth to decreasing man-made greenhouse emissions that provokes green house effect.
COP15 is now focusing on establishing this goal on a long term basis and maintain the quality standards of living, energy security and adequate supply of energy the best way there is without harming the environment.
