Producer fights with Filmmaker at Oscars
When Kanye West took the center of attraction while famous singer Taylor Swift was in a middle of her acceptance speech for her first ever award, everyone got anxious about it. In minutes, Shayne West became the topic in almost all networking sites in the Internet.
But who would ever believe that this would happen again in the recently concluded Oscars?
Dubbed by the Internet users as “Lady Kanye”, the audience can’t help but ask who the read headed woman with a purple jacket was. Lady Kanye abruptly held the microphone just when filmmaker Roger Ross Williams was about to make his acceptance speech for best Documentary Short entitled “Music By Prudence”.
This woman went all up to the stage and shocked everyone as she told Williams,”Isn’t it just like a man not to let the woman talk?” She also took all the time saying her speech until both of them were ushered off stage. Williams, on the other hand, stood there uncomfortably and was disappointed for not being able to make his speech.
After the show, everyone kept on asking who the read lady was. Turned out, unlike Kanye West, she was “also” entitled to have the speech because she was a credited producer of the film. She is Elinor Burkett.
So why did this happen? Rumors say that Williams and Burkett already have dispute regarding the movie. And since the Academy is strict on only allowing one person to speak for the award, the incident happened since both of them wanted to have the floor for their selves.
Furthermore, Burkett claims that the idea of the movie was her and that the film maker did not have any idea about it until she told him. On the other side of the coin, William says that he also has a very big right of the film since he had spent much in flying to Zimbabwe. To disclose, William said that he is still happy with the award. “There are times when there’s disagreement and dispute and you always hope that people will rise up to the occasion. It doesn’t diminish it,” he said.
