After six months of captivity, 21 Filipino seafarers finally gain freedom after the Somali pirates who earlier hijacked a Panamanian-flagged vessel decided to free them.
According to the report released by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) office, the Somali Pirates released MV Voc Daisy with Filipino 21 crew members last October 17.
The DFA in its report said the 21 Filipino crew of the ship are all safe and in good health condition.
According to the data released by DFA, the ship was was hijacked last April 21, 190 nautical miles off the coast of Salalah, Oman.
With the safe release of the Filipino seafarers, the DFA is now working for the immidiate their immidiate repatriation back to the Philippines.
It is said that at the moment, some 80 remaining Filipino seamen on board six vessels being held captive by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden: one aboard the MV Iceberg 1,
19 on the MV Samho Dream, 19 aboard the MV Eleni P, three aboard the FV Tai Yuan, 18 on the MT Motivator and 20 aboard the MV Izumi.
To ensure the safe released of the Filipino seafarers from the Somali pirates, the DFA is closely coordinating with the ship owners and authorities in the area.
The piracy perpetrated by Somali pirates is now a global problem affecting various countries all over the world.
By the way, the Washington, D.C., newspaper The Hill reported this weekend that labor unions and leftwing organizations will spend between $10 million and $20 million this month to twist lawmakers arms over the stalled healthcare reform effort in Congress and the Employee Free Choice Act. So, ACORN, Big Labor and other groups can organize and protest in support of the liberal agenda, but how dare anyone speak up against it!
