Category : Sport

Finally the Premier League club Tottenham has signed Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid for 11 million euros on Wednesday.

Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp moved for van der Vaart just two hours before top-flight clubs had to submit their 25-man squads for the first half of the league season.

The club said in a statement: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Rafael van der Vaart.”

The 27-year-old Vaart is also happy to join Tottenham. He said, “Four years at Spurs for 11 million euros, I can hardly believe it myself. The interest from Tottenham came very quick and I did not have much time to think.

“I am excited about playing England. Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of this transfer.”

The 27-year-old has won 83 caps for Netherlands, scoring 16 goals, and has played in two European Championships and two World Cups, including this year’s tournament in South Africa.

According to coach Redknapp, Dutch international is a quality player and great footballer.

Redknapp said, “He is s great passer of the ball, he is a top footballer. He will join in here and play the way we like to play, he would be a big plus for us.”
