Judge sentences Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail

Category : Entertainment

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail and an inpatient rehab program after finding the actress and singer had violated the terms of her probation in a 2007 drug case.

The actress was seen crying immediately after the ruling.

Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel issued the sentence after listening to testimony from employees of an alcohol treatment program that Lohan had been ordered to attend on Tuesday. They said Lohan missed seven classes since December, which led to the judge’s harsh rebuke of Lohan moments after the star offered a tearful apology.

“I did do everything I was told to do and did the best I could to balance jobs and showing up,” Lohan told the judge. “It wasn’t vacation, it wasn’t some sort of a joke.”

But the judge said she found the apology insincere and compared it to “somebody who cheats and thinks it isn’t cheating if she doesn’t get caught.”

Lohan will surrender on July 20 and was not taken into custody immediately. Until then, she will wear an alcohol monitor.

Revel had earlier ordered Lohan to wear an ankle alcohol monitor after the starlet missed a court date in May. Lohan was promoting a film project at the Cannes Film Festival at the time and claimed her passport was stolen.

Later, the monitor issued an alert after the actress attended the MTV Movie Awards  and after-parties last month. Revel said the device registered a .03 blood alcohol level, and Lohan denies drinking that night.

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” wins big at MTV Movie Awards

Category : Entertainment

The sequel to the vampire romance series, based on the best-selling novel, won five awards at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. The first movie won the same number just a year ago.

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” was named best movie, while stars Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson received other awards as well.

The ceremony treated “Twilight” fans by showing an exclusive preview of the third film, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which opens in theaters on June 30.

Both Stewart and Pattinson won Best female and Best male performance awards, along with best kiss. The on-screen and off-screen couple staged a deliberate awkward smooch onstage for the excited “Twilight” fans. Pattinson was named global superstar at the ceremony, which was held at the Gibson Ampitheatre near Hollywood.

Other stars shining at the Award show were Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock.

Cruise stole the show when he took the stage for a highly choreographed dance routine with Jennifer Lopez. The 47-year-old actor wowed the crowd with a saucy performance within the first half hour of the show.

Bullock later received a career achievement award, making her first appearance since split with husband, and then kissed Scarlett Johannson.

“Now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal? Because therapy is really expensive,” she said, trying to cover her marital woes pity.

“Go back to making fun of me, I don’t care … And I think when we all go to bed tonight, just to think about all the people that are being affected in the Gulf (by the BP oil spill) and just say a prayer for them.”

The MTV even airs three months after the Academy Awards, and provides a welcome opportunity for stars to applaud themselves in the media spotlight.
