At least one out of every 13 people on the planet now uses Facebook.

The social-network giant announced that it had registered its 500 millionth member, which means that one person in 13 of the entire global population has a profile set up on Facebook.

The popular site was launched in 2004. It has gained around 100 million new users in the last six months alone.

Facebook said the new number was “an important milestone” and added that it was “humbled and inspired” by the stories of its users.

However, as the popularity and usage of the social-network website has grown, concerns about privacy and online child safety is at large too.
