Leading home appliances expert offers free dehumidifier buying advice

At a time where demand for dehumidifiers is soaring, leading UK dehumidifier manufacturer Meaco has launched a new buying guide providing consumers with all they need to know to buy the right dehumidifier to suit their needs.

The new guide from Meaco details the difference between types of dehumidifiers, key features consumers can look out for and which ones to buy for functions such as drying washing or reducing allergic reactions. Also detailing tips for consumers to help them keep costs low, the experts have provided recommended wattages to look out for when buying a dehumidifier and advice on how to dry laundry quickly on a budget.

The increased popularity in dehumidifiers is linked to households cutting down on tumble dryer usage to dry washing, reducing potential damage from damp and mould growth and making heating more efficient at home, all to save money during the current cost of living crisis. Many dehumidifiers can run effectively at a low cost, with usage in some cases capped at a mere 150-200 watts per hour – the equivalent of five of six pence to run based on costs of electricity in UK, October 2022.

Not all dehumidifiers have the same wattages, however, with worser performing appliances costing consumers over £700 more based on a 5-year lifespan, due to steeper running costs. Research from Meaco in April 2022 after the spring price rate rise found that the Meaco Arete One 20L was £143 a year cheaper to run than its worst performing competitor, based on six hours use per day over 365 days.  The next best machine after Arete was still £39.25 more expensive than the Arete One 20L to run.  If a machine is kept for five years, this totals a saving of £196.25 to £715.00.

“The unprecedented cost of living crisis is forcing UK households to cut back on the use of gas and electricity,” says Chris Michael, Managing Director at Meaco. “We are all looking for ways to reduce our energy consumption, but a damp home from drying more washing naturally will result in costly damage and an increased spend on heating to take a chill out of the air caused by extra moisture.

“A low-energy dehumidifier is the best solution, which many consumers are realising as the colder weather creeps in. Our guide is especially valuable this year as many households are considering a dehumidifier for the first time, and don’t know where to start.”

Meaco has been manufacturing dehumidifiers since 1991 and is regarded internationally as a major industry player, working in over 20 countries. The company has won several awards for its products, including multiple Which? Best Buy and Quiet Mark status.

It has also won an award from Stiftung Warentest in Germany for its 1056 and 1056P fans.

Google Trends data shows that dehumidifiers have gained considerable interest with consumers in the second half of 2022, with popularity almost doubled since November 2021. Within this surge in popularity, further Google Trends data states that Meaco has been searched for at least four times more than its key competitors in November 2022.
