Running a successful small design business can be challenging, no matter the circumstances. Betty Boyns Designs has adapted and thrived in the face of adversity.
In 2017 Betty Boyns Designer Paula Nicholls son was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Last year after his first stem cell transplant failed he moved to Bristol and resumed treatment. She then decided to adapt the business to focus on her prints, cards, and bespoke design where she could work flexibly. She now supports him in Bristol and Cornwall.
Betty Boyns Designs produces a range of beautiful prints and cards that depict mostly Great British coastal locations often inhabited by people at play. She has also designed bespoke product ranges for many of the country’s key historic locations and charities.
Since lockdown they now concentrate on retail sales and prints sales have increased a 1000% on 4 their online stores.
“In the last year my car has done 25,000 miles all I need is my Ipad and access to the internet and I have a business.”
